Kevin Roberts

Kevin Roberts was born in Roanoke, Virginia and moved to Richmond to attend Virginia Commonwealth University. Before obtaining a Bachelor’s degree from the School of Fine Arts in 2004, he lived in New Orleans. He worked in various restaurants in New Orleans, most notably Bightsen’s under chef Frank Brightsen.

Following his return to Richmond Kevin worked at many local restaurants including The Frog and the Redneck, under chef Jimmy Sneed; Acacia, under chef Dale Reitzer, and Kuba Kuba with owner Manny Mendez. He went on to become Executive Chef at the Virginia Gorvernor’s Mansion under both the administration of Mark Warner and Timothy Kaine. In 2008, with the advice and much encouragement from his sister, Melissa, Roberts opened The Black Sheep. The Black Sheep has been featured on The Travel Channel numerous times. Currently, Kevin is also in the process of restoring the landmark Richmond restaurant, Perly’s.
